Book Review: ONE NIGHT IN TEHRAN by Luana Ehrlich

Tehrean0_One Night in Tehran ended up on my Kindle after a friend recommended it. I picked it up for free during a promotion on Amazon.  I confess, I didn’t actually read the book description. If I had, I would have missed out on a good book. The book description categorizes this book as a Christian thriller, emphasizing the spiritual aspects of the story. I am not a fan of Christian fiction or any fiction that focuses on religion or spirituality.  This book caught me by surprise.

Synopsis from Amazon:
Days after escaping from Iran, he begins searching for answers; meanwhile, an assassin begins his own search–for him!
Read a new series of Christian thrillers featuring CIA officer Titus Ray!
In Tehran, while hiding out from the Iranian secret police, CIA intelligence officer, Titus Ray, finds shelter with a group of Iranian Christians. Compelled by their unwavering faith, the battle-hardened, covert agent becomes a believer shortly before they smuggle him out of Iran to freedom in Turkey.

Back in the States and forced to go on medical leave, he discovers a Hezbollah hit man has targeted him for assassination. Now, while trying to figure out what it means to be a follower of Christ, he must decide if the Iranian couple he meets in Oklahoma has ties to the man who’s trying to kill him, and if Nikki Saxon, a beautiful local detective, can be trusted with his secrets.

  • Trained in lies, he learns the truth
  • Will it help him escape his past?
  • Can it change his future?

My Review
One Night in Tehran was definitely a well written page-turner, with an intricate yet believable plot set against the backdrop of growing terrorist networks around the world.  The main  character, Titus Ray,  is a likeable CIA covert agent and the author does a great job letting us into his head as he escapes Iran, and as he faces new threats and obstacles in his supposedly safe new location. Titus does reflect on his search for faith, however the spiritual/religous elements are sufficiently subdued so as not to detract from the enjoyment of non-religious or even non-Christian readers who are looking for a good suspense novel.  Different readers will simply  take away different things from the story.

I understand that this is Luana Ehrlich’s debut novel.  She is off to an impressive start!
